Historical Background
Education Malaysia Jordan (EMJ) is a division under the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia. Its office is currently located at the Embassy of Malaysia Amman, Jordan. EMJ is responsible for the internationalization of Malaysia’s tertiary education in six countries – Jordan, Turkey, Kuwait, Lubnan, Syria, and Palestine. The internationalization activities include research and academic collaborations, and student/lecturer mobility. The welfare and development of Malaysian students in these six countries are also monitored by EMJ.
Education Malaysia Jordan supports the Malaysia Education Development Plan (PPPM) and the National Higher Education Strategic Plan (NHESP) for the transformation of the Malaysian higher education system.
Education Malaysia Jordan (EMJ) was established on the 1st of March 1996. It was formerly known as the Malaysian Students Centre and administered by an Education Attaché with a Locally Recruited Staff (LRS). It operated at the Embassy of Malaysia in Amman.
In 2001, the center was upgraded to the Malaysian Students Department Jordan and started operating from its building in Abdoun.
In 2006, it moved to Sweifieh.
In 2010, Malaysian Students Department Jordan was rebranded to Education Malaysia Jordan and administered by three Home-Based Staff (HBS) and five LRS.
In June 2020, EMJ moved to its current location at the Embassy of Malaysia Amman.
